Outside Involvement Details

For further details on some of my outside involvements:

Red Cross
I have been an active volunteer for the Red Cross since I was 15. When I was 16, and old enough to be certified I began volunteering at weekly blood drives. I brought my commitment down to Texas and I have enjoyed being a member of the Tarrant/Dallas County Red Cross for almost 3 years now. I was lucky enough to be selected for the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, and Dallas Stars blood drives, as well as the ABC sponsored "Bachelor" blood drive and the Texas Motor Speedway blood drive.

The Daily Skiff
Writing for TCU's university news paper the Daily Skiff has been a huge commitment. We put out a news paper daily and I contribute at least two stories a week. I have reported on everything from sports to banquets to politics. I have had a great experience learning and can not wait to continue to develop my skill set.

Pi Beta Phi
As an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for women I have had numerous opportunities to better my self as a student and a person. Our philanthropy is First Book, which promotes literacy for children. I have been lucky enough to travel to local elementary schools and read to students who otherwise may not receive the attention they need. I have also volunteered to run book drives at Fort Worth events, such as May-fest. I have also participated in our annual dodge-ball tournament as a coach for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Pi Kappa Phi, and Chi Omega, respectively. I have also held leadership positions in Pi Beta Phi, I am a current member of both the Homecoming Committee, Social Committee and the Scholarship Committee. In past years I worked on several other committees with Pi Phi. I also planned Greek Week my sophomore year, and had the pleasure of working with representative from other Greek organizations on campus. I also participate in several intramural teams through Pi Phi including: flag football, indoor volley ball, outdoor volleyball, and basketball. Pi Phi has given me the oppertunity to participate in multiple philanthropies held by other organizations including: Lamda Watermelon Bash, Phi Delt Chilli Cook-Off (which we won!), Tri Delta Dunk Fest, Pi Kap PUSH Week, and Kappa Croquet. All of these philanthropies required time outside of normal fraternity requirements.

TCU News Now
News Now is TCU's daily television news show. I have been lucky enough to have a few of my stories featured on the show, although that privilege is usually reserved for seniors. I have volunteered in the control room, at the teleprompter and behind the camera since my freshman year at TCU. I can't wait for my opportunity next year to finally anchor for News Now.

TCU CEOs
TCU CEOs has been a truly invaluable opportunity for me to learn about the business environment out side of college. Through a stellar list of speakers, frequent trips within Texas (Austin, Dallas, and San Antonio) as well as our annual trip to Chicago I have learned about business markets all over the country. Being business savvy is valuable in any realm of the working world and CEOs is surly arming me with the skills I need.
